Houghton Pigot & Co Solicitors was established in 1990 following the merger of two firms, Houghton & Pigot and G. Raymond Pigot & Co.

The partners of Houghton & Pigot, had previously been partners in the long established Wigan firm Ackerleys (formerly Ackerley Heaton and Pigot). The partners of G. Raymond Pigot & Co., Frances Lawlor and Mark Randall had both trained as Solicitors with Ackerleys.

In 1998, the firm was established in its present form with Sue Houghton joining Frances and Mark as a partner and Margaret Houghton continuing to serve the firm as a consultant.

Frances Lawlor

Areas of practice: Wills Probate and Trusts; Residential and Commercial Conveyancing.

Frances joined Ackerley Heaton and Pigot as a trainee in 1981 and qualified as a Solicitor in 1983.

After qualifying Frances was an assistant Solicitor with Ackerley Heaton and Pigot before buying the practice of G. Raymond Pigot & Co with Mark Randall in 1988. When G. Raymond Pigot & Co merged with Houghton and Pigot in 1990 to form Houghton Pigot & Co, Frances became a Partner in the new firm.

She became Senior Partner in 1998.

Frances is the current Secretary and a former President of Wigan Law Society.
She is married with two grown up children and when she has any spare time she enjoys watching sport, cooking, gardening and travelling.

Mark Randall

Areas of Practice: Family; General Civil Litigation; Employment; Personal Injury; Debt Recovery.

Mark joined Ackerley Heaton and Pigot as a trainee in 1984 and qualified as a Solicitor in 1986.
After qualifying Mark was an assistant Solicitor with G. Raymond Pigot & Co., before buying the practice with Frances Lawlor in 1988.

When G. Raymond Pigot & Co merged with Houghton and Pigot in 1990 to form Houghton Pigot & Co, Mark became a Partner in the new firm.

Mark has had a lifelong interest in sport and music. He played rugby union throughout his school and university days and on returning to Wigan was a playing member of Orrell RUFC in their heyday. He maintains close contact with the club and is a member of the Former Orrell Players’ Society.
In recent years he coached his son’s team at Shevington Sharks ARLFC from U13-16s winning back to back league titles at U15 and U16 levels.

Mark is a keen concert and festival goer on the music scene.

Sue Houghton

Areas of Practice: Residential and Commercial Conveyancing; Landlord and Tenant; Family Law; Wills Probate and Trusts;

Sue joined Houghton Pigot & Co as a trainee in 1991 and qualified as a Solicitor in 1994.After qualifying Sue was an assistant Solicitor with Houghton Pigot & Co, before becoming a Partner in 1998.

Mark Duffy

Mark became a partner with the practice in 2018.

Area of Practice : Wills, Probate and Powers of Attorney.

Mark has been with the firm since completing his Law Degree in 2007.He then went on to complete his Training Contract with the firm and qualified in 2013.

Mark works primarily in the Probate and Wills department at both our Wigan and Ashton offices.

Katie Liston

Areas of Practice: Residential Conveyancing; Commercial Conveyancing.

Since qualifying as a Solicitor in 2008 Katie has always worked locally and joined Houghton Pigot & Co. in 2021. Katie deals with all aspects of Residential Conveyancing and also has considerable experience of Commercial Conveyancing.
